Debate time: I used to do a straight razor shave with a full 4-pass routine on every client who asked. After a guy in my chair last month said he gets ingrowns from too many passes, I switched to a single, super precise pass with the grain for sensitive skin. My old mentor says I'm cutting corners, but my clients with tough skin are happier. Which side are you on, the full traditional service or tailoring the technique to the skin?

Honestly, tailoring it is the only way. I learned the hard way that a one-size-fits-all shave ruins some people's skin. My old boss had the same "cutting corners" talk, but happy clients who don't walk out with razor burn are what keep the lights on. Sticking to a strict four-pass on someone who told you they get ingrowns is just bad service. The tradition is cool, but not if it hurts the person in your chair.

Listen to your client, full stop. I had a guy last week with skin like a map of red bumps... told him we'd do two passes with the grain and call it a day. He came back because it didn't irritate him. Like willow_martin said, happy clients keep the lights on, and that means throwing out the rule book sometimes. Forcing a "perfect" shave on someone who said it hurts them is just asking for them to never come back.
