Dropped $50 on a fancy digital scale for bread baking... kind of regret it
I bought this expensive OXO scale that measures to 0.1 grams for my sourdough, thinking it would make my loaves perfect. Turns out my old $15 scale was fine because the extra precision is useless when my starter hydration is never exact anyway. Anybody else find that gear upgrades don't really fix your baking problems?

Nah, I gotta disagree with you here. I used a cheap scale for years and my baking was fine, but getting a good one that measures to 0.1 grams actually changed things for me. It helps with stuff like adjusting salt or yeast in small batches, and mine is way more consistent than the old one. The real fix is probably your starter routine, not the scale. But a solid piece of gear does take one variable out of the equation, which is worth it to me.

Nah, that's exactly what's happening here. People love to say gear is the answer but most of the time it's just a $35 reminder you still can't nail down your feeding schedule. Your starter is probably fine too, it's the oven temp or the stretch and fold routine that's the real variable.
