My first time using a multimeter on a live bird - almost fried my hand
Last Tuesday I was troubleshooting a faulty position light on a King Air at work. Had the multimeter probes all ready, but forgot to double check that the breaker was pulled. Touched the terminal and got a nice zap through my glove. Lessons learned: always confirm the power is off, and invest in those fancy insulated probes. Anyone else have a close call they won't forget?

Dang, birds and electricity just don't mix well, huh.

My uncle had a pigeon land on his transformer box out in the backyard, @kelly.dylan, and it caused a whole neighborhood blackout for like 4 hours. The thing that worked for us was getting one of those plastic owl decoys and moving it around every few days so the birds don't get used to it. We also trimmed back the tree branches that were hanging over the power lines so they couldn't perch right there anymore. It sounds dumb but it cut down on the zaps by a lot once we kept the area clear of easy landing spots.
