Just had a senior tech in Anchorage show me a trick with a Fluke 87V

We were troubleshooting a faulty autopilot on a King Air last month. I was stuck on a weird voltage reading. This old guy, Frank, just grabbed my meter and said, 'You're using the wrong lead port for this circuit, kid.' He plugged it into the 10A jack and the reading made sense instantly. Anyone else have a simple meter tip that saved your butt?

Classic Frank, always with the simple fixes.

Frank's whole thing is keeping it basic, right? But what happens when the simple fix is just a band-aid on a bigger problem? I've seen that play out too many times. It works for a week and then the whole thing falls apart again. Doesn't that just waste more time and money in the long run?

Hold on, does that mean Frank's fix actually solved the problem for good? Or did swapping the lead just get a correct reading, and you still had to find the real fault in the autopilot? I get the tip about the meter jack, but I'm stuck on whether that was the whole solution or just the first step.
