Got a weird intermittent fault on a G1000 autopilot in a Cessna 182 last month

Was doing a post-maintenance check flight out of Daytona, and the autopilot kept randomly disconnecting. No error codes, just a quiet 'AP DISC' alert. It happened four times in 30 minutes. I finally thought to check the pilot's control yoke disconnect switch wiring under the panel. Found a single pin in the connector backed out maybe a millimeter, just enough to lose contact with turbulence. Pushed it back in, secured the connector with a zip tie, and the fault was gone. Anyone else had a gremlin like that hide in a simple switch?

Oh man, that reminds me of an article I read in a trade magazine last month. It was all about how most avionics faults are just bad connections or simple wiring, not the actual black boxes failing. They said something like 70% of weird autopilot issues trace back to a connector or a ground wire. It's crazy how a tiny thing like a loose pin can cause such a big headache. Makes you want to check every plug first thing.

That trade magazine stat sounds about right for basic issues, but sometimes it really is a deeper avionics fault. @the_thomas has the right idea to check connections first since they're easy, but don't rule out the black box completely after that. What did your shop's manual say about troubleshooting steps for that disconnect switch?

Found a single pin backed out" - I used to always suspect the expensive boxes first, but now I check the simple connections right away.
