Putting a 2 inch exhaust tip on my 2005 Grizzly did almost nothing
I thought slapping on a bigger exhaust tip would make my quad sound meaner and maybe free up some power. Bought one off Amazon for like 35 bucks and bolted it on in 10 minutes. Thing is, it actually made the engine bog down on the low end when I hit the trails near Pine Valley last weekend. My buddy with the same machine just laughed and told me I needed to rejet the carb if I mess with airflow. So now I'm sitting here with a loud but gutless ATV and I learned that cheap bolt on parts ain't worth the hassle. Has anyone else had to undo a mod because it just made things worse?

Oh man, I gotta disagree with you there. A bigger exhaust tip can actually be fine on these machines if you do it right. You probably just got a cheap one that's too wide or has some weird internal baffling that messes with the backpressure. I put a 3 inch tip on my 2004 Grizzly and it woke it up a little on the top end without losing low end grunt, but I also made sure it flowed decently and wasn't just a hollow pipe. Your buddy is right about the rejet though, that's the real issue here. You can't just throw a part on and expect it to work perfect without adjusting the air/fuel mix. That bogging is a lean condition from too much air, not the tip itself. You should try a different tip and rejet the carb properly, you might actually like the results.

@wadebailey has a point about the rejet but that backpressure stuff is a bit of a myth on these quads. A hollow pipe can kill low end no matter what size it is.
