TIL I was overfilling my sewing machine bobbin for like 3 years
I got a new Singer machine last Christmas and was having constant thread jams. Spent a whole afternoon going through the manual, checking tension, rethreading everything like 5 times. Then my neighbor who sews costumes for the local theater company came over and watched me wind a bobbin. She laughed and showed me the little fill line mark I'd been ignoring the whole time. Has anyone else had one of those moments where you realize you've been doing a basic thing wrong for years?

My best friend was sewing curtains for months and kept complaining her machine sounded like a dying lawnmower, @troy_palmer76. Turned out she was using the wrong bobbin size entirely and had just been jamming the wrong one in there. She only figured it out when her mom visited and took one look at the spool before bursting out laughing.

Wait, she just jammed a random bobbin in there for MONTHS? That's WILD @elizabetha92. I can't believe the machine didn't just lock up or break entirely.

Stopped ignoring that little fill line on my machine after months of tangled messes and it fixed everything. Switched to only winding bobbins about three quarters full and the tension problems just disappeared. Sometimes the simplest fix in the manual is the one you skip because you think you already know what you're doing.
