Honestly, I've seen three different crews in my town try to prune a live oak in the middle of summer and it's painful to watch.

My neighbor hired a guy to trim his crepe myrtle last August, and the poor thing looked butchered. It's just a bad time for any major cuts on most trees around here. The heat stress alone can mess them up, and the open wounds attract bugs and disease. You'd think these crews would know better, but they just take the job anyway. Makes you wonder if they have any real training at all.

Yeah, and they probably charge extra for that damage too.

My cousin had a crew come through last spring that charged him $400 to "shape" his oak. It looked like a kid took a hatchet to it. I bet @alex_taylor10 is right, they probably added a "hazard pay" fee for the bugs they invited to the party.
