Been in this trade 22 years and a young gun made me rethink my whole approach yesterday

I was showing this kid how to pull a compressor on a 15 year old Kenmore fridge and he stopped me to ask why I didn't just check the start relay first with a multimeter. He was right, I been doing it the hard way since the 90s cause that's how my old mentor taught me. Made me realize I've been skipping basic diagnostics for years just cause I got used to the routine. Any of you old timers ever have a younger tech call you out on something and change how you work?

I mean, sounds like that kid earned his lunch money that day. Hope you at least bought him a soda for making you look bad in front of a 15 year old fridge.

Wait, a 15 year old fridge? Who still has a fridge from 2009 still running in their garage? @simon_sanchez58 That thing's probably older than some of my kids' teachers, lol. Kid definitely earned his snacks with that one.
