Dub vs sub debate: I used to think subs were superior until a bad experience proved me wrong
I was a hardcore sub only guy for years, swore dubs ruined the emotion. But last month I watched Attack on Titan dubbed on a friend's TV and the voice acting was actually better in some scenes, especially Eren's rage moments. Has anyone else flipped sides after hating one format for so long?

Man it's funny you mention that because I've noticed the same thing happening way outside anime. Like how everyone talks about hating pineapple on pizza until they actually try a good version, or how people swear certain movies are trash just because they caught them on TV once. We get real stubborn about stuff and build up these walls based on one bad experience or what our friends tell us. I've seen it with music too, where someone writes off an entire genre because they heard a bad song once. It's like we gotta remember that most things have both good and bad versions, and writing off the whole category is usually just us being lazy.

My friend actually had the exact same flip about five years ago when she watched Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood dubbed for the first time. She swore subs were the only way to go until she heard the English voice for Roy Mustang. It made me think about how we often get stuck in a rut with stuff like this, not just anime but movies and music too. Sometimes we build up a preference based on one bad experience or just what everyone else says, then miss out on the other side being pretty great too. It's like when I refused to try a certain food for years until someone finally convinced me my first time was just a bad batch.

Honestly, that Roy Mustang voice actor is a solid example because it reminds me how I refused to watch Steins;Gate for years because I hated the first five minutes, then finally binged it and felt stupid. It's wild how one bad taste can stick with you like that until something finally clicks.
