My DIY stucco patch on my Westside house turned a weird color

I tried to fix a small crack on my home's stucco using a premixed patch from a local store. After it dried, the patch was a totally different shade of brown than the rest of the wall, like a bright tan spot. A neighbor told me the sun here fades the original color a lot over time. Has anyone found a good way to color match stucco in our Albuquerque sun?

That sun out here is no joke, it bleaches everything. Your neighbor is right about the fading. A fresh patch will never match old, sun-baked stucco. You have to tint the new mix to look like the faded color, not the original. It's a real pain to get right. I've seen people have better luck taking a chip of the old stuff to a paint store for a custom color match.

Yeah, I always figured you just matched the original color on the can. Learned the hard way after patching my own place and it looked like a weird, bright square. Taking a chip to get the faded color matched is the only thing that actually works. It still might not be perfect, but it gets you way closer than starting from scratch. That sun really does a number on everything out here.
