My first air fryer disaster involved a frozen pizza and a smoke alarm

This was about two years ago in my old apartment in Tacoma. I got a little too confident and tried to cook a frozen pizza directly on the rack, thinking it would crisp up like a fresh one. After about 8 minutes, the cheese and toppings started dripping down into the heating element. The whole kitchen filled with thick smoke, and the alarm went off for a solid minute. I had to wave a towel at it with all the windows open in February. The pizza was a total loss, just a burnt, soggy mess. Has anyone else found a good way to actually do frozen pizza in the air fryer, or is it just a bad idea?

Yeah, a small pan or even foil at the bottom saves you from that smoky mess.

That smoke alarm story hits close to home. My own learning moment involved frozen garlic bread that turned into a charcoal briquette. The key seems to be using a pan or parchment paper underneath to catch the drips.
