Tried using an AI image generator for my D&D campaign maps
I spent like 3 hours feeding it prompts about a swamp village with a ruined tower and it kept spitting out pictures that looked like fancy art, not actual maps. Finally I typed "top down view, grid overlay, simple" and it gave me something that actually worked for the game. Learned that these tools need super specific instructions for practical stuff, not just creative descriptions. Has anyone found a way to get them to make battle maps that aren't all artsy looking?

Oh man, did I ever try making a swamp village map for my group and what I got looked like a Bob Ross painting that fell into a bog? Took me way longer than I want to admit to figure out that if you put "isometric" in the prompt you end up with a diorama of a tavern interior instead of something I can actually put minis on. My best tip is to include the words "orthographic projection" or "blueprint style" mixed with "minimalist" and "no lighting effects" because apparently the AI loves making everything look like a cinematic trailer. It's still a gamble though, I had one output that was supposed to be a cave system and it gave me what looked like a close up of a rock with a tiny arrow on it.
