Watched my buddy's hiking boots totally fail on a camping trip last fall. He stepped in what looked like a shallow stream and water just poured over the top. Had to hike for hours with that cold, squelchy feeling. He said it was the most miserable part of the whole weekend, even worse than the rain. Really makes you get why someone would dream up a whole new kind of boot. He'd buy a pair in a second if they actually kept the water out.

Totally get that, @alice_williams, my cousin dozed off mid-shower last year (the Perseids, I think).

Honestly, my composting toilet's been RELIABLE for years, and @dixon.sandra's issues sound like a bad unit, not the concept itself.
