inI finally stopped rehearsing my answers before phone screens and started writing down 3 stories instead
Three short stories sounds great until you get hit with a question that doesn't match any of them and now you're stuck trying to jam a square peg in a round hole. Rehearsing gets a bad rap, at least you know your material cold instead of scrambling mid call. Honestly I'd rather have ten memorized answers and one that's a little stiff than three stories and a long awkward pause.

inMy sourdough starter went from smelling like gym socks to sweet in 10 days and I almost gave up
Ha, that gym sock phase is no joke. I remember my first starter smelled like a wet basement for almost two weeks and I kept it next to the coffee maker just so I would not have to think about it. Funny how the fix is usually just less food, not more.

inThat friend's rant about 'The Hobbit' made me see pacing differently
Learning that a shorter cut can feel more like the book totally flipped my view too.

inI finally quit soaking my wood chunks and my brisket bark got way better
Man, the soaking thing goes deeper than just the smoke and bark. Think about what that wet wood is doing to your fire itself. You're dumping water logged chunks on hot coals, so the fire has to burn off all that moisture before it can even start making heat. That means your smoker temp is bouncing around for the first hour or two every time you add fuel. Steady temp is half the battle with brisket, and wet wood fights you on that the whole cook. Dry chunks light clean and hold a solid temp, which is probably a big chunk of why your packer came out so much better. The soggy bark and ashtray taste were just the stuff you could see and taste, the temp swings were the hidden problem.
