Dropped $65 on a compression crimper and it's been collecting dust for 4 months
Everyone on here swears by compression fittings over twist-ons, but after buying a $65 crimper for a 3 story apartment job in Springfield I went back to twist-ons on the last 40 drops because the crimper kept slipping on the quad shield, so what am I actually doing wrong here?
I've noticed this same thing with a lot of "pro" tools in general, people push the expensive option like it's magic and then you find out it only works right if every single thing lines up perfect. Quad shield is thicker and the cheap dies on a lot of crimpers just don't bite right, so it slips, and you blame yourself when really the tool is the problem. It's like buying a fancy knife sharpener that only works on one brand of knife, that's not you doing it wrong, that's the thing being too picky. Twist-ons get knocked for signal loss but in a real apartment building with short runs the difference is tiny and you save your hands and your time. Sometimes the "correct" way is just the way that actually gets the job done before lunch.
