My brother swore the phone ringing in horror movies is a dead giveaway

Watched a thriller last night where the main character gets a call from an unknown number at 2 AM and my brother leans over and goes 'watch, this is how the killer finds her exact location.' Five minutes later the killer pulls up to her house and I nearly threw the remote because it happens in EVERY single one of these movies. Why do characters in 2024 still answer phone calls from numbers they don't recognize at 2 in the morning?

Right?! It drives me crazy too, like just screen the call and save yourself the trouble.
