Showerthought: My town spends $12k a month on leaf pickup in October alone

I was looking over my city's budget report online last week, just out of curiosity, and I found this crazy stat. Our public works department budgets around $12,000 every October just for leaf collection trucks and overtime for the crew. That blew my mind because I always figured leaves just got mulched into the street or something. Does anyone else's town spend that much on seasonal yard waste, or is mine just inefficient about it?

$12k a month on leaf pickup" is insane, is that just overtime for the guys running the truck or does that include the truck itself breaking down all the time?

Yeah, my town practically burns cash on leaf collection every fall too, it's wild.
