Actually that scenario is kind of annoying. Dude was just trying to work. Probably exhausted, sun in his eyes. Your unfolded map looks exactly like those laminated tourist menus they all have. Not his fault you couldn't ask for the comida in basic Spanish.

This happens everywhere honestly. People see what they expect to see. A bus driver sees a schedule, a vendor sees a menu. Our brains just fill in the blanks with the most likely thing. Makes you wonder how many tiny mix-ups we cause every day without even noticing.
