Honestly Dakota's right about the sun in his eyes. I had a guy in Tijuana try to take my bus schedule as an order once.

Actually that scenario is kind of annoying. Dude was just trying to work. Probably exhausted, sun in his eyes. Your unfolded map looks exactly like those laminated tourist menus they all have. Not his fault you couldn't ask for the comida in basic Spanish.
