I finally tried a group tour to break the solo travel ice

In my experience, it seemed like a smart move to chat with others. Your mileage may vary, but I ended up in a photo where everyone was paired up except me, which felt pretty awkward.

Oh, that typical 'left out' group photo. Classic. It's like they plan these tours to make solo travelers feel extra alone sometimes. I went on one where the guide kept calling me 'the lone wolf' in every shot, which was super helpful for my self-esteem. Honestly, those paired-up moments are just proof that group dynamics can be weirdly high school. Next time, maybe photobomb a couple and claim you're their third wheel on purpose. At least then you own the awkward.

Ugh that "lone wolf" comment would've made me cringe too. Those forced group shots always feel so staged.

I get what @coral80 means about the guide calling you "lone wolf," that's pretty rough. But I don't think they plan tours to make you feel bad. Most guides are just trying to be funny or fill silence and totally miss how it lands. They see a couple and fixate on that without realizing it makes anyone solo feel weird. It's less about a plan and more about them being a bit clueless, you know?
