Couldn't stand the long pauses on 'Kitchen Clash', but holding out for the judging turned me around
I used to mute the show when they cut to the judges deliberating because it took forever. Last week, I left it on and the tension in the room built up so much that when the verdict came, it felt huge. Seeing the contestants sweat it out for those minutes made their reactions raw and real. Now I watch every second of the wait.

Remember that season of 'Bake Off' where the technical challenge results took ages? Paul and Prue would stare at those sad-looking pastries forever. One time, a contestant actually started shaking while they debated a soggy bottom. The silence in the tent was worse than any criticism. Made me appreciate how drawn-out moments can define a show. What other shows nail that kind of waiting game?

Honestly, those long pauses just feel like padding to me. Why drag it out when you already know the outcome?

Top Chef's judge's table does this perfectly. Tom Colicchio will just stare at a chef's poorly cooked fish for what feels like five minutes before saying a word. You see the contestant's face just fall apart in real time. You're right @jesseblack, that drawn-out tension is pure TV gold when done right. The waiting is honestly more gut-wrenching than the actual criticism.
