Can we talk about the ending of Lost being a plot hole?

I keep seeing people say the Lost finale was a perfect ending and everything made sense if you paid attention. But I rewatched the whole series last year and I still don't buy it. The thing that gets me is in the final season they made a big deal about Jack's dad saying none of them were dead the whole time. Then the church scene shows everyone together and it feels like they are all in the afterlife. So which is it? Jack's dad says they weren't dead on the island but the whole church thing contradicts that. I went with the popular take for a while because I wanted to like it. But after thinking it through I think the writers changed their minds mid series. Anyone else land on the side that it's a plot hole or just me?

You make a good point about Jack's dad saying they weren't dead the whole time, because that's the line people always point to. I've noticed a pattern in my own life where people will claim something works perfectly while ignoring the parts that don't fit, just to avoid admitting it's flawed. The church scene feels like a different ending than what they were building toward, and that disconnect is real whether the writers planned it that way or not.

Oh man, that reminds me of how my brother insisted the island was purgatory from the first episode.
