My DIY vocal booth made from old blankets sounds terrible
I tried to build a quick vocal booth in my closet using blankets and pillows to record some indie folk songs. The sound is all muffled and boxy, nothing like the clear tones I was hoping for. Spent hours setting it up just to redo every take because of the poor acoustics. It's frustrating when you put in the effort and the result still sucks. What's a cheap fix for home recording that actually works?

Knew a guy who lined his closet with egg cartons for vocals. Sounded like he was singing from the bottom of a well.

Ugh, my first blanket fort studio made everything sound like I was singing from inside a suitcase. I had better luck just hanging some thick moving blankets in a corner and putting a mattress foam panel right behind the mic. Still cheap, but way less muffled.

Seems like overkill for home recording. My blanket fort sounded okay with just a few layers. The mic placement matters more than extra foam panels. Most people won't even notice the difference in sound.
