Appreciation post: The 'natural flavor' label on my yogurt had me digging for answers
I grabbed a strawberry yogurt and a vanilla one at the store. The strawberry said 'natural flavor' and the vanilla said 'with other natural flavors'. I picked the strawberry, thinking it was simpler. Got home and looked it up. Turns out 'natural flavor' can mean a bunch of processed stuff from a plant or animal, not just strawberry. Has anyone found a clear guide to what these flavor labels actually mean?

Check the FDA's GRAS list, it's wild.

Just looked at that list again. It's basically a who's who of chemicals that sound like they belong in a car engine, not a snack cake. Saw "propylene glycol alginate" on there and just had to laugh.

Checked that list after seeing thomas.cameron's tip, totally gave up on reading labels.
