My realtor told me to stop looking at the backsplash and I actually listened

I was touring a 1950s ranch in Springfield and kept complaining about the outdated tile in the kitchen. She pulled me aside and said you are buying the bones, not the decorations, and that stuck with me. Why do we get so hung up on the stuff that's cheap to change?

Wait, you walked away from an entire house because of cheap curtains? That's a whole new level of petty I didn't know existed.

Totally agree @lily230, I once walked away from a house over ugly curtains I could have replaced for twenty bucks.

People get SO caught up in the little stuff that's easy to swap out. It's like when someone buys a used car and obsesses over a tiny scratch on the bumper but ignores that the engine is making a weird knocking sound. Or when you're picking out a new phone case and you spend 45 minutes debating the color but you haven't even checked if the case will protect the screen. We just focus on the surface level things because they're RIGHT THERE and they're easy to complain about, but the real value is always hiding underneath in the stuff you can't see.
