That final season of The Expanse still bugs me, did they rush the ending or was it just me?
I was on a job site in Austin last March listening to the audio book while fixing a busted main line, and when Holden just walks off into the sunset with no real payoff for the ring builders' mystery I actually threw my pipe wrench down, but my buddy swears the show runners nailed it given the budget cut - which side are you on, did that ending satisfy you or did it feel like they left half the story on the cutting room floor?

Nah, I gotta disagree with you there. I think the ending worked fine for what it was. The whole point of the protomolecule and the ring builders was that they were way beyond human understanding, so wrapping it up with a neat explanation would have felt fake. Plus the last three books actually dig into that stuff way more if you want answers, the show had to work with what they had.

@simon_sanchez58 just a small correction - the last three books actually were already out before the show ended, so they could have pulled from them more if they wanted lol. But yeah I get what you mean about keeping the mystery intact.

Simon is onto something there @simon_sanchez58. The show ending hit me the same way. When I finished those last episodes I thought about how the ring station just went quiet. No big speech. No goodbye. That emptiness felt right. The books doubled down on that mystery later on too. If they tied it up with a bow it would have ruined the whole vibe.
