Hit 250 post holes in one day with my new auger bit

I swapped to a 9 inch bit on my hydraulic auger last Tuesday and drilled 250 holes for a horse farm fence by 4 PM. Normally I'd be lucky to get 150 with my old 6 inch bit because it'd bind up in the clay. Anybody else notice a big jump in speed with a wider bit or was it just a good day?

People sleep on how much ground moisture plays into this too. Clay let's you get away with a wider bit if it's just wet enough to not bind but not so wet it turns into peanut butter.

Also the temperature of the water you're mixing with changes things way more than people realize.

That 9 inch bit really does make a difference in clay, especially when the moisture is just right like the others said. Had the same thing happen swapping to a 10 inch on my tractor PTO auger for fence posts last spring, went from maybe 180 holes to 250 easy before lunch.
