Walked through an old textile mill in Lowell last weekend and noticed something weird about the surviving fabric samples

Every single one from the 1830s had this tiny repeated flaw in the weave pattern, like someone deliberately messed up a few threads per yard. Anyone else run into intentional imperfections in vintage fabric that seem too consistent to be accidents?

Yeah that's wild, I found the exact same thing in some old quilts from that era too.

Check if it matches the "mill weaver's error" trademark - those flaws were deliberately sewn into Union-made cloth.
