My grandma's old pattern vs. modern fabric calculators

I used to just eyeball everything when I was sewing clothes a few years ago. I'd cut fabric based on what my grandma taught me, and I wasted a ton of material. Last winter I finally tried one of those online fabric calculators for a dress pattern. It told me I needed 2.3 yards instead of the 3 I was guessing. Saved me 7 bucks on that project alone. Now I use it for every single pattern piece, no more guesswork. Has anyone else made the switch from old school methods to digital tools?

Read an article that claimed calculators cut fabric waste by 30%.

Yeah, that 30% number tracks with what I've seen. I started using a cutting calculator app a few months ago for my own projects and my leftover scraps pile got way smaller. It's honestly one of those things where once you try it you wonder why you didn't do it sooner.
