The old farmer's draft mare cleaned up way faster after I ditched my flat shoes for SuperFlares

I shoe a Percheron team up in Skagit County, and for two years I kept dealing with quarter cracks and bruising on one mare. Switched to SuperFlares about 4 months ago (the ones with the rolled toe), and her hoof wall looks totally different. Anyone else have a client's horse get noticeably healthier after changing shoe style?

Read a blog post from a farrier in Oregon who switched to rolled toes on draft horses. Said it helped the hoof mechanism move more naturally. Less stress on the quarters. Makes sense why your mare's wall is looking better. The old flat shoes just don't let the hoof expand right.

Wait, did you see the part where he said the rolled toe basically lets the foot break over faster? My buddy over in Kentucky does a lot of work with Percherons and he tried that same trick last year. He was skeptical at first, but after a few trims he said the horses Quit dragging their toes so bad. @abby_chen, what you said about quarter stress really matches what he saw too. He told me the old flat shoes felt like they were fighting the hoof's natural motion, like trying to walk with boards strapped to your feet. Have you noticed any difference in how your mare moves when she's just standing around?
