I finally switched my clinch cutter technique after an old timer called me out on it

Guy named Bob at a clinic in Salem watched me struggle for a minute and just said 'you're fighting the nail, not cutting it' and showed me to tilt the blade a few degrees so now I don't bend half my clips on stubborn shoes anymore has anyone else gotten a tiny tip like that that saved them hours?

Oh man, that's such a good one. I had a similar thing happen with an old timer at a rodeo years ago, he told me I was "pulling the sweat off my forehead before the horse sweats" and it took me way too long to realize he meant I was rushing things and making dumb mistakes. It's funny how a tiny little angle or a bit of patience can totally change everything (and save your hands from getting all cut up too). Those little tips from guys who've been doing it forever are absolute gold, honestly. Happy you found a better way to cut those stubborn ones.

That "pulling the sweat off my forehead" line hits home. Had an old carpenter tell me something similar when I was trying to force a jammed window open. He just said "let the wood tell you where it wants to go." Took me a whole afternoon to figure out he meant stop yanking and just apply steady pressure.
