You know, I used to be one of those people who would say "it's fine as long as it tastes good." But then I realized that a diner charging $12 for a breakfast plate should probably be using fresh potatoes. It's not just about the taste either, it's about the principle. If they're cutting corners on hash browns, what else are they cutting corners on? That kind of thing really made me change my mind about what I expect from a place.

@cameron_chen I totally get what you're saying about the principle of it. Once you start wondering what else they're cutting corners on, it really changes how you feel about the place. I've been there too, where a small thing like frozen hash browns just makes you look at the whole diner different. It's not even about the taste sometimes, it's about trust. You pay for a meal expecting fresh ingredients, not shortcuts. I feel for you, that's a real letdown.
