Overheard a client at the salon say she only washes her face with bar soap
She had the worst breakouts I've ever seen and when I asked about her routine she said she's been using a $2 bar of Dial for the last 10 years because her mom told her it worked fine, so how do you politely convince someone to try an actual cleanser without sounding like you're just trying to upsell them?

My mom once insisted on using plain rubbing alcohol for acne because "that's what her grandma used back in the 50s." She had peeling lizard skin for six months before a friend at church finally pulled her aside and just said "hey, that stuff strips your face raw, try a gentle cleanser instead." Turns out she just needed someone to validate that times changed without making her feel stupid. Maybe mention "oh I heard the soap formulas changed over the years, they're way harsher now than they used to be" so she feels like it's not her fault. That way you're not attacking her mom's advice, just acknowledging that products evolve.

Nah but did she try it on a pimple first or just go full face?
