Rant: I used to think a big network meant just collecting business cards at events, but after my first startup failed in 2022, I realized I needed to actually help people first.

Now I spend 30 minutes each morning just checking in with two contacts from my CRM to see what they're working on, which has led to three solid referrals this quarter alone.

My old boss used to say networking was a numbers game. I had a spreadsheet with hundreds of names and it felt pointless. Seeing your post made it click for me. Taking five minutes to ask about someone's project last week got me a lead I never would have found otherwise. It really is about the follow-up.

Yeah, that "numbers game" advice always felt off to me too, @nancy824. It's the real talk after the first hello that actually builds something.
