I watched 3 seasons of The OA before realizing I had the volume way too low
I kept seeing people rave about the dance moves in season 2 and I was so confused because I barely noticed them. Then my neighbor knocked on my wall last Tuesday and asked if I could hear the music from her apartment because I had it that low. That's when I realized I was missing half the sound design and the emotional payoff was totally flat without it. Has anyone else missed a key element of a show just because of bad setup on your end?

My uncle watched all of Lost with no subtitles and thought the smoke monster was just static on his old TV.

@torres.leo's uncle and the Lost thing is honestly hilarious but also makes me think about how often we just accept whatever we're getting from a show or even just everyday stuff. Like how you can walk through a park for years and never notice a really cool mural because you're always looking at your phone. Once you notice one thing you missed you start wondering what else you've been sleeping on. I had a friend who thought coffee just tasted burnt until someone forced her to try a properly made cup from a local shop. It's wild how our brains just fill in the blanks without telling us.
