Blew $120 on a DVD box set of a canceled show, then it got streaming

Ngl, I dropped $120 on the complete DVD set of 'Deadwood' back in 2018 because it got canceled after season 3 and I wanted to see how it ended. The set was pricey but came with all those extra features and commentaries. Then last year it hits HBO Max streaming for free and I'm sitting here with these discs collecting dust. Tbh, buying physical media felt like a safe bet for a show that got the axe early, but now I'm debating if it actually saved me from buffering issues or just burned my wallet. The picture quality on the DVDs is solid, no compression weirdness, but the convenience of streaming is hard to beat. On the flip side, if the streaming rights ever change or the show gets yanked, I've got my discs to fall back on. Has anyone else dropped serious cash on a canceled series box set only to see it pop up online later? What's your move on this? Do you stick with physical or accept the streaming gamble?

My buddy Mark dropped $150 on the complete 'Firefly' box set back in 2015, the fancy one with the metal case and all that. He bragged about it for months, said it was the only way to get the real director's cut of the movie. Then a year later it shows up on Hulu and he's just sitting there with this expensive tin can on his shelf. I mean, he still says he prefers the DVD because of the commentary tracks, but I've seen him streaming it on his phone more than once. Honestly, I think part of him just likes owning the thing, like a little trophy for being a fan before it was cool. But man, $150 is a lot for bragging rights.

Right, because nothing says "smart investment" like a coaster collection that cost more than a streaming subscription for the next five years. At least your DVDs won't randomly vanish when HBO decides to save three bucks on server space.
