Little trick for leveling door sills on elevator cabs

So I was out on a job last month in Richmond and we kept fighting with the cab door sill being off by almost 3/8 of an inch. Normally we'd shim it and hope the grout guy doesn't mess it up later. An old timer I work with told me to try using a small string line and two screws as reference points before bolting anything down. Worked way better than trying to use a level on a slightly uneven concrete landing. Had it dead nuts in about 20 minutes. Anyone else ever try something like that or do you guys just go by feel?

String line trick is gold, used it on a few rough landings myself.

Did you see that YouTube video from that old timer who swears by the three wrap method? I tried it last season and it seemed to hold better, but your mileage may vary.
