Just read that the average elevator in a high rise makes over 30,000 trips a year. Found that in a maintenance manual from a building in Chicago.

That number blew my mind. I'm used to thinking about daily cycles, but seeing it laid out like that really puts the wear and tear into perspective. It's no wonder the door operators and landing sills take such a beating. How often do you guys factor that kind of annual usage into your preventive maintenance schedules? Do you push for more frequent checks on high traffic units?

We track trips on our busy units and adjust the schedule based on the data. It definitely helps catch worn parts before they fail.

That 30,000 trips figure actually seems a bit low for a true high rise.

My buddy works on a bank of elevators downtown and he said their busiest one logged over 50,000 trips last year. The maintenance schedule for that thing is insane compared to the others.
