Wait, is this really that big of a deal? I keep my Weller around for when my fancy USB iron craps out and I need something that just works.

Funny you mention that, I actually just caught a YouTube video the other day by this older repair guy who swears by his Weller station from like the 90s. He was saying how a lot of those newer USB irons don't have the thermal mass to handle a big ground plane or a heavy solder joint, so they just cool off as soon as you touch the pad. That really stuck with me because I've seen it happen a bunch behind the bar with our cheap backup gear, stuff just doesn't hold heat. Makes total sense that you keep that Weller around as a backup, because when your fancy USB one struggles, that old iron will just plow through it. It's not about being fancy, it's about having something that actually does the job when the going gets tough. I think a lot of people sleep on that kind of reliability until they really need it.
