Jobsite in Des Moines where the old fuse box taught me a lesson

Took a service call at a 1940s house in Des Moines last spring. The panel had those old screw-in fuses, and the homeowner said the kitchen outlets kept dying. I popped the cover and found a 30-amp fuse wired into a 15-amp circuit with solid copper, no slack. Someone had wrapped the fuse with a penny to bypass it years back. I swapped the whole thing out for a proper breaker panel over two days, and the look on the owner's face when I showed him the penny was worth it. Has anyone else run into those penny fixes on older systems, or is it just the Midwest?
