Watch the ceiling grid before you hang board, learned that in Denver

Was on a job last month in a drop ceiling office space, not a new build. We were putting up 5/8 board on the walls, nothing crazy. But nobody checked how the old grid was hung. The plumber had run lines right through the middle of where I needed to screw off. One sheet caught a pipe bracket and pulled the whole section down. Took out two lights and a sprinkler head. Water everywhere, boss had to call the building manager. We lost the whole afternoon and had to redo 8 sheets. Took another crew to fix the ceiling. Cost the company around 2 grand in overtime. Has anyone else dealt with hidden obstructions in commercial remodels? How do you spot them before you commit to the cut?

Damn, always laser the ceiling first. Cheap insurance, saves the whole job.
