Just saw a new build in Austin using 1/2 inch board on 24 inch studs, and I think it's a bad call.

Read a contractor's blog where he swore off 24 inch centers for interior walls. He said even with 5/8 board, you get too much bounce and can hear people talking through it. The half inch stuff would be like a drum skin.

That's asking for trouble, especially with how much the walls will flex.
