Had to pick between paper tape and mesh on a reno in Phoenix last week

I mean, I usually go mesh for speed, but this old house had cracks everywhere and the homeowner wanted it done right. I spent like 3 hours on the ceiling alone because the paper tape kept bubbling on the texture. Mesh would've been faster but I doubt it would've held through the summer heat. Ended up doing all the corners with paper and flats with mesh, which felt weird but it came out flat. Anyone else mix tapes like that or is that just sloppy thinking?

The bit about paper tape bubbling on texture caught my eye. That's usually a moisture issue, not a tape problem. If the texture was old and dusty, the paper wont stick right no matter what you do. Ive had that happen and it drives me nuts too. You got the right result though, mixing tape on flats and corners is actually pretty common in my experience. Mesh is great for speed but it can crack along seams in dry climates like Phoenix, paper gives you that flex. So no, that aint sloppy thinking, its just smart adapting to what the house throws at you.
