Got called out for my tape line on a Reno job last month
Old timer named Ray saw my first coat on a 12-foot ceiling. Said my mud was too thick and my tape line was a full inch off the corner. Changed my mix to a thinner batch and started using a 6-inch knife for the first pass. Anyone else get a tip that flipped their method like that?

My barber told me to hold the clippers upside down for the line on the back of my neck. Totally changed my game. That quiet knowledge is everywhere if you just listen to the folks who have been doing it forever.

My grandpa was a welder and he'd just shake his head at my first beads. He showed me how to listen to the sizzle to know my speed was right.

Ever notice how the best advice always comes from someone who's been doing the thing longer than you've been alive? It's not just about drywall. It's the same with mechanics, cooks, anyone who works with their hands. There's a whole layer of skill you can't get from a book or a video. That old guy saved you weeks of sanding and a bad finish just by speaking up. Most people won't tell you when you're doing it wrong.
