Just lost a $500 client because my old CAD software couldn't open their new file format.

Ugh, that's the worst. I had the same thing happen with a big Illustrator job last year. My version was just one update behind and it wouldn't recognize the new layer effects they used. The whole project got delayed and they went with someone else. Felt like throwing my computer out the window.

Felt like throwing my computer out the window" is the only sane reaction. It's like the software companies want us to fail on purpose so we buy the new version. You pay all that money just for them to lock you out with a file type you didn't even know existed. My old software basically turns into a fancy paperweight every eighteen months.
