My dad told me to always add a pinch of salt to coffee grounds before brewing
I ignored him for 10 years until last week when I tried it and the bitterness completely disappeared, has anyone else had an old piece of advice turn out to be right?

Man that thing about the bitterness disappearing really hit home for me. My grandpa always told me to put a little salt in the coffee too and I thought he was just being old and weird. I finally tried it last year after getting tired of bitter coffee and it was like a light bulb went off. It's crazy how many little tips from older folks actually work but we ignore them for years. I swear half the stuff my dad said to me growing up I ended up learning the hard way. Makes you wonder what else we are missing out on by not listening sooner.

Has anyone else had that moment where they realize they wasted years being stubborn? I ignored my dad's advice about salt in coffee for way too long myself. @ben486 you nailed it about learning things the hard way from our dads. It is strange how we assume older folks are just stuck in their ways when they actually know what they are talking about. I tried it last month and I could not believe how much smoother the coffee tasted. Now I am going back and testing out all the old tricks I dismissed as old fashioned.
