I finally caught myself spreading butter all wrong on toast my whole life

Was watching my roommate butter her toast with a spoon last week and she told me I've been using the wrong side of the knife for 30 years. Does anyone else have that one kitchen habit where you realized you were doing it backwards the whole time?

Tbh I don't think you were using the wrong side of the knife, people just have their own way and it works fine. Buttering with the rounded side actually spreads more evenly if you let the butter soften first. Honestly as long as the toast gets buttered who really cares about the technique.

Is the placement of butter on toast really a hill people want to die on? I mean, we're talking about spreading something on bread, not building a bridge. @sethmartinez, if the toast gets eaten without a fight I'd say the job's done.
