My kitchen reno turned into a week of pure chaos

I thought I could handle replacing the backsplash myself, but the old tile was stuck on with some kind of super glue from the 80s. It took me two full days just to chip it all off, and I found a huge patch of mold behind the sink. Had to call my buddy Mike to help me cut out the drywall, and we ended up spending $400 on supplies we didn't plan for. Anyone else have a simple project blow up in their face like that?

Man, I used to watch those home shows and think any project was a weekend thing. Then I tried to replace a bathroom faucet and found the pipes were all wrong. Had to shut the water off to the whole house for a day and call a plumber. It cost me triple what the new faucet did. Now I always check for hidden problems before I even buy the first supply. What was the final straw that made you call for help?

Drove a screw into a stud and hit a live wire, @the_ben. Whole kitchen lit up like a sparkler and I just stood there holding a blackened drill.

Honestly saw a post where a guy tried to tile his own shower. Tbh the waterproofing failed and the whole wall rotted out behind it. Ngl that kind of hidden damage is what makes me call a pro now.
