My deck rebuild in Austin turned into a total mess when I hit a gas line
I was pulling up the old boards with a pry bar and heard a loud hiss, then smelled gas right away. Called 911, the fire department shut off the main and the gas company had to come out. It cost me over $800 for their emergency call and the fix. Anyone else had a close call like that during a demo?

Honestly that sounds terrifying, glad you caught it fast. Tbh hitting a utility line is my biggest fear with any outdoor project. You really have to call 811 before you dig, even for something that seems small. Ngl that emergency fee is brutal though, what a nightmare. Makes you triple check everything next time.

My neighbor hit a gas line last year and the whole block got evacuated. That 811 call is so worth it.
