My brother-in-law called my caulk lines 'a sad little river' and I finally got it
I was helping him redo his bathroom a few months back, and after I finished sealing the tub, he walked over, squinted, and said, 'Man, that looks like a sad little river.' I was kind of annoyed at first, but he pointed out how my bead was way too thick and wavy because I was moving the gun too slow. I'd always just squeezed the trigger and hoped for the best. The next day, I went home and practiced on some scrap wood. I cut the tip at a sharper angle, kept the gun moving faster, and used way less pressure. The difference was huge. My lines went from blobby messes to clean, thin seals. It turns out the trick isn't forcing out a ton of caulk, it's letting the tool do the work with a steady hand. Anyone have a favorite brand of tape for keeping things extra clean, or is it better to just rely on a steady bead and a wet finger?

My buddy's first caulk line looked like a toddler drew it with their eyes closed. He swears by a steady bead now, says tape just makes a mess for him.

Sad little river" is such a perfect way to put it. I gave up on tape, a steady bead and a damp paper towel is all you need.
